Utah Flats to a Flat in Utah
Utah Flats to a flat in Utah
20 miles outside of the town of Price, I stopped at an overlook to capture some pictures. Price is 100 miles from… nowhere.
Up ahead, a family of five was stranded with a flat tire. Of course, offering to help, I jacked up the car, removed the flat, and went to retrieve the donut spare. It, too, was flat.
Growing up, my father always challenged me with the question: what if? On my motorcycle for this trip, I have: 4 days clothing, 3 pair shoes, toiletries, 3 different weight jackets, 3 books, laundry supplies, full rain gear, and my laptop. Just in case, I have a sleeping bag and a towel. That is the personal items. I also have a full set of tools, battery jump box, AND a tire inflator.
You’d be surprised how much you can carry on a motorcycle. Thanks, Dad!
Back to the family with the flat tire. Remember, everyone has a story…
Richard, Carol, and their three teenage daughters just left Price, visiting family, on their way home to North Dakota.
Richard is originally from New Zealand, and has a fantastic accent. His Audi R8 was gorgeous; metallic sand paint with red, painted calipers, and low profile tires. I bet she would be amazing to drive on these roads!
The family was panicked when we discovered the spare was flat. I began to grin, and then chuckle. I walked around my bike, opening my saddle bag, I emerged with my air compressor, fully charged and ready to go.
Ten minutes later, the family was back on the road, returning to Price, in the hopes of getting a tire repaired. With flashers on, they took to the road at 40 mph. That poor R8; she just wanted to scream on that road.
Kindness, compassion, and the Scout’s motto carry me through this day with blessings.
